Description

Licochalcone A is the prenylated chalcone hallmark of Glycyrrhiza inflata— the “third stream” of licorice root after the famous saponin (glycyrrhizinate) and the brightening isoflavan (Glabridin). Low-yield (~0.05–0.2% root), but literature-dense — the differentiated R&D/cosmetic/oral-care node of the licorice root trio.

Four commercial buckets:

  • Oral Care / Biofilm (LCA’s #1 differentiated DTC+B2B): LCA literature on S. mutans biofilm, P. gingivalis, gingivitis models, oral malodor (VSCs) — this is where LCA diverges from Glabridin (brightening) and Licorice Acid (soothing). DTC/oral-care formula: toothpaste / mouthwash / oral gel at 0.1%–0.5% LCA (often blended “Licorice root triple-extract” — acid + Glabridin + LCA — “soothing + brightening + oral-care” triple from one root). Search: “Licochalcone A toothpaste”, “licorice oral biofilm S mutans”, “Glycyrrhiza inflata oral care”. KR/JP “licorice oral” small bucket steady.
  • Cosmetic – Soothing + Antioxidant (adjacent to Glabridin/Luteolin/Centella): LCA NF-κB/ROS lit, but LCA’s DTC angle is “licorice root traditional + oral-care crossover” (lip balm, mouth-area, “soothing from the root that also does oral”). Less DTC volume than Glabridin brightening, but premium “oral-care crossover cosmetic” niche (e.g. lip mask + oral zone). Inner-link to Taima’s Glabridin 59870-68-7 (brightening) + Luteolin (soothing) + Centella (if in SKU) — “licorice + botanical soothing” cluster.
  • Antiparasitic / Leishmania R&D: Glycyrrhizatraditional “expel parasite”, but licorice itself mild — LCA/licorice chalcones lit on Leishmania spp., Trypanosoma cruzi modest). Light inner-link to Artemisinin 63968-64-9 (malaria pharma) — different parasite/different pharma tier, but “traditional antiparasitic botanical” search cluster adjacent. R&D only, not DTC.
  • NF-κB / STAT3 / Antioxidant R&D: LCA inhibits NF-κB p65, iNOS, COX-2, ROS — same “NF-κB sextet” cluster: Quercetin + Parthenolide + Costunolide + Dehydrocostus + Wogonin + LCA (now septet? Xn also chalcone — actually octet if count Xn: Quercetin+Parthenolide+Costunolide+Dehydrocostus+Wogonin+Xn+LCA = septet/septet+1). LCA’s angle = oral-biofilm + antioxidant + STAT3 (literature also on adipogenesis/metabolic, minor vs. Xn NAFLD). Procurement: pure ≥98% for formulation pilot / oral-care R&D.

Applications

Licochalcone A CAS 58749-22-7 Prenylated Chalcone from Glycyrrhiza inflata

Oral Care / Biofilm – LCA 98%+ or LCA-enriched Licorice P.E. (Glabridin+LCA+Acid triple) at 0.1%–0.5% in toothpaste/mouthwash/oral gel; S. mutans / P. gingivalis / VSC lit; “licorice root triple-extract” blend (acid soothing + Glabridin brightening + LCA oral) — KR/JP “licorice oral” niche; DTC: “traditional Glycyrrhiza oral wellness supportive”

Cosmetic – Soothing + Antioxidant – LCA premium “oral-care crossover” (lip mask, perioral); inner-link Glabridin (brightening) + Luteolin (soothing) + Centella cluster; Licorice P.E. triple-peak (Acid+Glabridin+LCA) for “licorice botanical” mono-powder brands

Antiparasitic / Leishmania R&D – LCA lit Leishmania / T. cruzi modest; traditional “licorice expel-parasite” soft; inner-link Artemisinin 63968-64-9 (malaria pharma, diff tier); R&D only

NF-κB / STAT3 / Antioxidant R&D – LCA ≥98% for NF-κB p65/iNOS/COX-2, ROS; “NF-κB R&D septet” inner-link: Quercetin+Parthenolide+Costunolide+Dehydrocostus+Wogonin+Xn+LCA; oral-biofilm + metabolic minor angle

Licorice P.E. Premium (triple-peak) – Glycyrrhizinate + Glabridin + LCA HPLC; LCA ~0.1–0.5% if enriched (vs. Glabridin 10–40% in brightening grade, vs. Acid 5–20% in soothing grade); PO: confirm which stream(s) — Taima quotes all three
