Description
Coenzyme Q10 (ubiquinone-10) is a lipophilic benzoquinone with a decaprenyl side chain, endogenous to mitochondrial electron transport chain (Complex I–III shuttle) and cellular antioxidant defense. Dietary / supplemental CoQ10 is studied for:
- Cardiovascular & statin support – statin therapy depletes endogenous CoQ10; supplementation is widely discussed for myocardial energy metabolism
- Mitochondrial & energy – fatigue, exercise recovery, age-related decline (endogenous CoQ10 peaks ~20s then falls)
- Anti-aging & skincare – antioxidant, often paired with vitamin E / astaxanthin / resveratrol in JP/EU cosmetic lines
- Pet & equine – cardiac support in senior dogs, performance horses
Commercial forms matter for formulation:
- Crystalline (unformulated): raw powder, needs lipid matrix / self-emulsifying for oral bioavailability (native crystal ~poor BA)
- Water-dispersible / beadlet: for beverages, tablets, cosmetics – starch/maltodextrin matrix
- Oil-suspension / softgel premix: most common DTC format (typically 50–200 mg/softgel, with fat meal)
Applications

Nutraceuticals / Dietary Supplements – heart health, statin-user support, energy & stamina, healthy aging; softgels, tablets, gummies (oil/emulsified)
Functional Beverages & Gummies – water-dispersible CoQ10 beadlets required; often blended with vitamin E, omega-3, astaxanthin
Cosmetics & Personal Care – anti-aging cream, serum, eye care; antioxidant, often “CoQ10 + vitamin E + squalane” JP-style formulas; oil-dispersible grades
Pet Food & Equine Nutrition – senior dog cardiac support, performance horse mitochondrial support; premix grade
Pharma / R&D – API intermediate (some markets register CoQ10 as pharma adjunct), reference standard HPLC
